Elk River Tire & Auto

There are several factors that can have a significant impact on the lifespan of your tires:

  • The design,
  • Driving habits,
  • Extreme climate temperatures,
  • Road conditions, and
  • Regular tire inspections.

As the miles add up on your tires, here are three tips to keep in mind:

  1. 5 years plus – Have a thorough inspection of your tires performed annually.
  2. 10 years max – If your tires are at least 10 years old, it’s time to buy new tires even though they may appear to be in usable condition. Replace the spare at the same time.
  3. Regular tire service – Regular tire service, which includes rotations, maintaining the correct air pressure, and immediate repair of punctures, will increase the lifespan of your tires.

If you feel excessive vibration, or notice steering and handling problems, reduce your speed immediately and drive with caution until you can safely pull off the road. Check for excessive tread wear or some form of damage. If a tire is damaged, replace it with your spare and then have your tire repaired as soon as possible. If you are unable to identify the source of the vibration, schedule a thorough inspection of your vehicle. You may have bad shocks or a bad axle.

Remember: Regular tire service is one of the easiest, but most critical aspects of keeping your vehicle driving as safely as possible.
