Elk River Tire & Auto

If you are getting ready to head out on a long road trip, or even for just your daily commute, it is wise to take care of any necessary tire problems as soon as possible. Visit your auto shop of choice for a quality tire service to ensure that everything looks good on your wheels before heading down the road. Make sure your spare tire is also in good condition. Don't wait until you're stranded with a flat tire to find out that your spare is flat too!

If you need to replace your spare tire, Here a Few Facts About the Various Types of Spares that You may Need to Consider:

  • Full-Size Matching: Because a full-size matching spare tire is the same as the other tires on your vehicle, it means that you will be able to continue driving until you can conveniently reach a tire repair shop. Remember to rotate it along with your other tires as part of your rotation pattern.
  • Full-Size Non-Matching: Although this spare is full size, the wheel may be different than the wheels on which the ground tires are mounted. A full-size non-matching spare should not be a part of your rotation pattern.
  • Full-Size Temporary: This unique type of spare is built with lightweight construction and a shallow tread depth. Although it matches the vehicle's tire size specifications, it is made to only be used as a spare.
  • Compact Temporary: This type is also lightweight with a shallow tread depth, but has much smaller dimensions. It requires a higher inflation pressure than both standard and temporary spares–generally 60 psi.
  • Folding Temporary: This type of spare is more difficult to use as it has to be inflated before it can be used.

Some of the newer model vehicles do not come equipped with a spare. It would be a good investment to purchase one at the same time you purchase your new vehicle. Because knowing which kind to purchase and where to get it can be a bit tricky, ask for professional advice from a tire service center before you make a purchase.

If you need to find the right spare tire for your vehicle, contact our ASE Certified technicians today at (763) 441-2889 or go to www.elkrivertireandauto.com for more information about tire service. Our auto shop in Elk River, MN proudly serves residents in the areas of Zimmerman, MN, and Otsego, Minnesota.
