Elk River Tire & Auto

To protect your automotive investment you need to establish and follow a maintenance plan.  Even with today’s modern vehicle’s, a tune-up should be part of that plan to ensure you get the maximum reliability and safety of the vehicle you depend upon daily.  Check your owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule, which will also include a scheduled car tune up. Although this schedule is based on "normal" driving, very few of us drive "normally."

What is a Tune Up Car Service in Today’s Vehicles?

Simply stated, for today’s modern vehicles, a car tune up is an orderly process of inspection, diagnosis, testing, and adjustment that is necessary periodically to maintain peak engine performance or restore the engine to original operating efficiency.

Ignition systems have become much more reliable over the years.  Many engines don’t even have distributors anymore.  They use a DIS or Direct Ignition System.  These systems can either mount one ignition coil on each spark plug or share one coil for two plus, thus eliminating the need for a distributor.  For engines that still use a distributor, it is a good idea to have a car tune up to replace the distributor cap, distributor rotor, and ignition wires in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.  The spark plugs may still need to be replaced on a regular basis as well.  Even though some manufacturers have extended those intervals to 100,000 miles, this doesn't apply to all engines. You will want to enlist the assistance of your local auto mechanic for a maintenance schedule for your specific vehicle and driving conditions.

Tips to Remember:  A tune-up car is an investment that will pay back with improved fuel economy, longer engine life, and cleaner air.

To extend, or to restore the performance of your truck or car, have a quality tune-up performed by a certified auto service center.  Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at the Elk River Tire & Auto center by calling (763) 441-2889 or go online to www.elkrivertireandauto.com for more information.  Our auto shop in Elk River MN, also proudly serves residents in the areas of Zimmerman, and Otsego, Minnesota.
