Elk River Tire & Auto

Winter is on its way!  Your auto shop wants their customers to be as safe as possible with a reliable vehicle, whether it’s just for your short commute to work or school, or whether you’re headed to the mountains for some fun in the snow!  Call the professionals at your preferred auto center to schedule a standard inspection of the various systems of your vehicle to determine if there are any potential issues that could cause problems down the road. Don’t take any unnecessary chances of a roadside emergency and find yourself looking for an auto shop for an urgent repair.

5 tips from an auto shop to help keep you safe on winter roads:

  1. Regular maintenance services:  Have the brakes, transmission, radiator tank and hoses, battery charge, lights (headlights, brakes, back-up lights, blinkers, and fog lights), and wiper blades inspected to make sure they are functioning properly.  Check all fluids (oil, brake, transmission, etc.) and change or top-off as necessary, and use high-quality filters if possible.
  2. Tires:  Make sure all your tires have the proper inflation pressure.   Inspect them for abnormal wear, and have them rotated if necessary.  If the tread is too shallow, it may be necessary to purchase new tires, or you may need to purchase snow tires.  Don’t forget to make sure the spare is in good condition too!
  3. A clean car:  A clean car helps you remain more comfortable and at ease while driving.  All-weather floor mats will help protect your carpets and are easy to clean.  Clean your windows so there is nothing obstructing your view.  Remove unnecessary items from the trunk and backseat to increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiency
  4. Emergency Kit:  Keep a roadside emergency kit in the trunk.  It should include blankets, flares, jumper cables, flashlight, snacks, and water.
  5. Anti-freeze: Make sure the ratio of anti-freeze is adequate for freezing temperatures, and that there are no cracks or bulges in the radiator hoses.

Although your auto shop can’t guarantee that the unexpected won’t happen, they can help increase your chances of a stress-free drive!
