Elk River Tire & Auto

Spring has arrived with all its color and freshness! It's time to take care of spring cleaning, including your automobile. Most drivers will take care of a necessary auto repair, but they refuse to use harsh chemicals or gallons of water to clean their vehicles. An auto shop offers a few cleaning tips that are environmentally friendly to keep your car looking and smelling fresh and new.

Five Car Care Tips From An Auto Repair Shop:

  1. Eliminate Odors – The essential oils (no harsh chemicals) in dryer sheets will keep funky odors away.
  2. Dry it Out – If you frequent the beach or pool, or if you're caught out in a summer rainstorm, the interior of your car tends to absorb some of that moisture. Don't leave wet clothes or towels lying around on the seats or floorboards. If possible, leave the windows open a crack to keep air flowing to reduce mildew buildup.
  3. "Green" Cleaners – Look for "green" cleaners that use only natural scented oils, so you know that you're neither harming yourself nor the environment.
  4. Wash Your Own Car –Commercial car washes are required to dispose of wastewater via sewer drains, where treatment is compulsory. So if possible, use your garden hose at home. You can keep from using excessive gallons of water, and keep the soapy runoff from entering the storm drains by using two buckets—one with a "green" cleaning product, and one with clear water. Sponge wash, rinse, and then wipe dry with a microfiber cloth.
  5. The Birds and the Bees -- Birds and insects leave acidic deposits on your paint, which will eat away at your car's paint if left for a period of time. As soon as possible, clean the spots with a microfiber cloth. You'll protect your paint job and extend the time before your next full wash.
