Has your vehicle failed an emissions test recently? If you have not kept up with regular engine service, your vehicle may have trouble passing the test. Failing the emissions test will result in some much-needed engine repair.

An emissions test is important as it proves your car is legally able to operate within the state. Without it, your vehicle is legally ineligible for driving.

What Happens If Your Car Fail the Emissions Test?

Maybe you failed to notice the warning signs and was concerned about your budget. Here are three reasons why your car will most likely fail the test:

1) A bad O2 Sensor. This sensor monitors other functions in your car, including the exhaust and the fumes. Once this is out of whack anything can happen. You can go through many things like poor acceleration, overheating, and loss of power to the engine. Your car will fail to start and you will definitely need to put out some cash on an engine repair.

2) The "EVAP" system stops gas from being emitted into the air and exhaust. If your gas cap begins to leak fumes, whether from being loose, or broken, it is not a good sign. The same thing can happen with the vacuum hose. Be sure that these items are inspected on a regular basis.

3) Your fuel monitor may be off. This will cause a snowball effect with other sensors making all the numbers were off.

Remember: As the old saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!"

In other words, regular engine service will help prevent unexpected engine repair!
