Vehicles are a wonderful thing until they start breaking down. Just like people, they require monitoring and maintenance to operate smoothly. Whatever the reason, people tend to neglect engine service. Sooner or later this leads to engine failure and an expensive trip to the auto shop for engine repair. The following are some of the most common reasons behind an engine repair:

1.  Knock, Knock

Knocking sounds from up front and below the hood is a fairly common thing. This happens when the bearings in the engine start to fall apart. The bearings are what make the moving parts of the engine work. If not properly lubricated, they are sure to wear down and fall apart. If the engine has a lot of miles on it, then even lubrication may not save the day. This may take a partial rebuild of the engine.

2.  Smoking is bad for Cars too

If the car starts emitting smoke, then trouble is not far away. In fact, it's even possible to tell what type of trouble the engine is having. If the smoke is black, then the engine is burning too much gasoline. This means the parts controlling fuel and air entry will need to be fixed. If it's white smoke, then it is most likely a blown head gasket. Cylinder head problems can also cause white smoke. Usually, this sort of problem is a result of an engine overheating. Blue smoke comes from burnt oil. The trick is to find out how it is entering the combustion chamber.

3.  Water issues

Getting water in the engine is perhaps the least common type, but it does happen. Most people tend to think this can only happen if the person driving treats the car as if it were a submarine. This is not true. In fact, driving in heavy rain or through standing water is enough for damage to happen. If you have any doubts about the way the car feels or sounds after driving in heavy rain, then get it into your auto shop immediately.
